Rangatahi Ora

Rangatahi Ora is our free six-session programme for Year 8 students, which supports vulnerable rangatahi to successfully navigate the transition from Intermediate to High School. Currently delivered in six West Auckland schools, it helps at-risk rangatahi who need extra support as they move up to high school.

Studies show these more vulnerable kids are sometimes at risk of lower academic achievement, higher mental health stresses, and a higher risk of dropping out of school early. But early intervention can help build their confidence, identity and ability to navigate school changes, and redirect rangatahi on a pathway to success.

It's why we've been doing this mahi  for over six years – and now why we're working to expand to help more students and schools, including additional areas of Auckland's west, along with Northland and South Auckland.

What's covered:

Six supportive two-hour group sessions to become high-school ready, with an emphasis on fun and positive engagement

Clear guidance about what to expect from high school

Visit to high school to help allay specific concerns and worries

Liason with intermediate and high schools around what they need for their students

Delivered by qualified, experienced counsellors, able to work with high-risk rangatahi, including those who are impacted by family and whānau violence
